Proper nutrition is essential for maintaining good health and well-being. A balanced diet provides the necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that our bodies require to function optimally. It supports the growth and development of children, helps adults maintain their health, and promotes healthy aging in older individuals.

Proper nutrition assists in the prevention of lifestyle diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, gut disorders, kidney diseases, cancer related complications and arthritis.

Tanelle Schutte

RD (SA) BSC MED HONS, CLIN DIET (US)

I qualified at the University of Stellenbosch in 1999. After 3 years of student training and lecturing, I started to work at Groote Schuur Hospital where I was promoted to Principal Dietitian. At this state hospital, I gained valuable experience in critical care, trauma, surgery, cancer treatment, eating disorders and internal medicine. After starting a family, I resigned at the hospital and started to locum at Vergelegen Nutrition Centre, where my focus was on the nutritional management of renal patients, athletes (being an athlete myself) and disordered eating.

In 2009 I opened a private practice in the Strand, where I mainly helped overweight and insulin resistant patients. I joined the Vergelegen practice permanently in 2016 and was seeing both in-patients and out-patients up until 2019 when I started my own private practice in Swellendam.

Mission Statement

My mission is to help patients improve their health and wellbeing with good, balanced nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle changes.

More about me

I live in Swellendam and am married to Wilhelm, a Town Planner, and the love of my life. I am blessed with three daughters. Motherhood is the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life. I received my first pair of running shoes when I was 12 years old and have loved running since then. I used to run marathons, but I now prefer trail running. Jessie, our border collie, has been my running partner for the last eight years. I love running with her in the mountains. I believe in balance: to be active, to eat healthy, to get sufficient sleep and sunlight and work hard on relationships.
